The Sonata has come a long way since its early days as a car that had a reputation that was almost as bad as it looked, but with every reincarnation it looked more and more like a serious market contender in the luxury segment.
With the Sonata YF, Hyundai has completely outdone themselves and created a vehicle that would turn the eyes of everyone no matter what their prejudices. There will be three models available with capacities of 2.0-liters or 2.4-liters. For the 2.0-liter model there will be two variants the low spec and the high spec, but the differences are mostly to do with electronic functions and not so cosmetic. All three models will come shod with 17-inch wheels for example but the two higher spec variants will also be equipped with a sunroof each.
Besides its outward appearance, what is also impressive is its 6-speed automatic gearbox with SHIFTRONIC manual control. Having more gears would undoubtedly improve fuel efficiency, but that’s not all. This new gearbox which replaces the older 5-speed is lighter, simpler and cheaper; effectively giving you the best of everything while not burdening consumers with unnecessary cost.
The Sonata YF also touts a world class power-to-weight ratio. Build with ultra-high-strength steel, the Sonata has world-class body rigidity which is 25% stiffer in torsion and 19% stiffer in bending than its predecessor. Yet, it is lighter than many midsized sedans.
